How We Win Boston Criminal Cases
The attorneys at the Massachusetts Criminal Defense Group have a pattern that we follow in every case. It starts by us asking our clients to complete the most basic assignment (we call it "homework"). This instantly increases the chances of winning your case.
Just as police officers prepare an arrest report immediately after they arrest a suspect or begin an investigation, we want our clients to prepare a statement of their case as soon as possible in order to keep the events relating to the arrest or investigation fresh in their mind.
We ask clients to prepare the following:
- Statement of "what happened" — Write down the events leading up to, and the arrest itself. What happened? What did the officer or investigators say? Let us know what gave them any reason to pull you over, come to your house, arrest you, etc.
- List of witnesses — In almost every case, there is one (or up to 50!) people who may have seen what happened or have information to provide us relating to the case. Who was present? Who may have driven by and seen what happened? Who saw you just beforehand or afterwards? Please provide us with each person's name and any contact information that you have.
- List of character references — Who knows you well and could present you as a decent person who would, in the court's mind, be considered credible? How long have they known you? How did the two of you first meet? What is the nature of your relationship? Would they write a letter, if requested?
- Social history — How long have you been in the community? Do you work here? Did you go to school here? Are there any medical conditions that might have relevance to your criminal matter?
This homework assignment allows us to know as much about our client — and their case — as possible. Remember, nothing is more than helping us help you preserve your clean criminal record. Working closely with us will maximize your chances of success.
The next step in our defense is to conduct an independent investigation of your case. We find the evidence that benefits you. We interview and locate witnesses, canvass neighborhoods for evidence, and do background checks on the prosecution's witnesses.
Fighting and winning cases at trial is what we do. You will love our trial notebook as the attention to detail we put into discovery and cross-examining police officers is key. Some claim it is the officer who ends up on trial – not you, as the defendant.

Because we'll appear in each Massachusetts court , our local attorneys know the laws, prosecutors, and Judges in the local area. We know local procedure in the courts and can avoid unnecessary delays that others often encounter. By working with the same people day-in and day-out, we've learned how judges rule, and which matters they often concede and which they hold firm.
