We Know the Somerville Community
Whether it's our knowing local law enforcement, where the best local restaurants are (Dali, Tacos Lupita, Kebab Factory, Tu y Yo, Gargoyles, and Anna's Taqueria), or where the best drinks are poured … working with our local criminal attorneys gives you a competitive advantage in the courtroom that puts you a step ahead.
It isn't about "pulling strings," but rather about understanding how things work locally, and knowing enough local information in order to do the best work with evidence and witnesses.
How Medford and Somerville Police Departments Work
Each city has a different police department. In Somerville, for example, the department takes almost 50,000 calls for service each day. It divides Somerville into two districts — East and West. A police substation is located in each district. The East District is located on lower Broadway at 81 Broadway; the West District is located at 1154 Broadway in Teele Square.
Both substations have daytime civilian clerks who are available to assist citizens with assistance and help. The different patrol officers who are assigned to their districts have discretion to meet and assist citizens with a variety of issues, and write police reports to summarize each incident.
A Captain oversees each District. This is the person who acts as a Commander for their district. Two Lieutenants, three sergeants, and between 25-30 patrol officers support the Captain — 24 hours a day. Different patrol methods — using both marked and unmarked police cars, bicycles, and motorcycles — are used in order to accomplish their duties. The most common crimes in the area are Aggravated Assault, Breaking & Entering, Homicide, Motor Vehicle Theft, Robbery, Vandalism, and noise complaints.
Arrested for Shoplifting at the Assembly Square Mall?
We defend juveniles, high school and college students, and the men and women living in or near Somerville who have been accused of theft crimes at Kmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Christmas Tree Shops, Sports Authority, or TJ Maxx. Our lawyers have been successful in having complaints dismissed — especially when the conduct complained of is too trivial to warrant prosecution.
Do I Need a Lawyer?
When you are facing criminal charges in Somerville, It is strongly recommended that you always use an experienced and aggressive criminal defense attorney. Do not defend yourself in a criminal proceeding because there are hundreds of legal traps and loopholes that can result in unfair convictions and severe sentences. If you cannot afford a private attorney, you have the right to a court-appointed public defender. However, public defenders are often overburdened and cannot always devote the time that your case requires — and deserves.
