When a person has been charged with theft, their whole world can be turned upside down if they are convicted. Once convicted of a theft crime, people must deal with criminal penalties like imprisonment, fines, restitution and probation.

Arrested for OUI-Liquor? Call Our Lawyers NOW
If you are charged with a first offense OUI, you stand a good chance of being handed a more lenient judgment than if you're deemed to be a repeat offender. There are certain defenses which have been known to work in a large percentage of Wrentham DUI or Wrentham OUI cases. For example, if we can establish that the officer did not comply with Massachusetts search and seizure law when you were pulled over, this can help you to avoid a driver's license suspension or even a conviction.
If you turn your problem over to our criminal defense lawyers, we can often handle the RMV hearing and the criminal court process before you go back to work.
Understanding the Massachusetts RMV Process
The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is an administrative agency given authority over motor vehicle licensing issues. Under a different branch of government than the court, it has the power to suspend your driver's license or Massachusetts CDL license for a variety of reasons.
You can have your license suspended or revoked for a number of reasons including repeated moving violations, negligent operation of a vehicle, or operating under the influence (OUI) of liquor, commonly referred to as driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol.
The monetary fines, length of suspension, and other requirements that are associated with RMV penalties hinge on the number of prior offenses, if any, drivers have and the severity of each offense. When counting Massachusetts DUI offenses, it usually does not matter how old they are. Under the most recent "Melanie's Law," there is now a lifetime look-back period. Additionally, if the Massachusetts RMV is aware of out of state convictions or alcohol program assignments, those out of state OUI charges will also count against you. The law requires the Registry to treat an out-of-state offense as if it had occurred in Massachusetts.
If you have had your driver's license suspended, you may apply for a hardship license. Our RMV Hardship License lawyers in Massachusetts can assist you, but you should know that the RMV has unfettered discretion of whether or not to issue a Work License or general hardship license.
An Arrest Doesn't Always Mean That You'll Be Found Guilty
The Constitution insists that criminal defendants are "innocent until proven guilty," but we all know that the presumption of innocence is all but forgotten most of the time. In today's media-saturated society where people regularly read the Boston Herald, watch breaking news on TV, or hear about criminal investigations and arrests on the radio, people form opinions about a person's guilt or innocence long before criminal charges are filed or a trial begins.
At the Massachusetts Criminal Defense Group, our criminal defense attorneys work diligently to ensure that our clients receive fair treatment from law enforcement, a fair trial, and the benefits of all other rights, including the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, to which they are entitled.
